Mission Statement

The Port Alberni ACL Foundation was formed to enhance public awareness of individuals with developmental disabilities and support the Port Alberni Association for Community Living in accomplishing its' Mission and Vision, through financial resources and advocacy.

Who Are We?

The Port Alberni ACL Foundation was established under the umbrella of the Port Alberni Association for Community Living to help fund programs and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

We are a non-profit, tax-exempt Foundation governed by a voluntary Board of Directors that is broadly representative of the community.

The Board ensure that the individuals we serve are supported with dignity and respect and that the programs and services meet their needs. In addition, the Board establishes the vision, mission and values of the Foundation and determines the strategic direction of our operations and activities.

What Do We Do?

The Foundation was established for the purpose of promoting the establishment or development of programs, and activities for individuals with developmental disabilities and to assist individuals to fully participate as valued members of their community. The purposes of the Foundation are as follows:

  • Raise funds to enable the Society to carry out the purposes of the Society.
  • To accept and receive such gifts, grants, donations, legacies, bequests, memorial funds, endowments and similar gratuitous dispositions of money and of personal and real property from all sources including corporations and other charitable organizations and other funds as deemed appropriate for use of carry out the purpose of the Society
  • To hold and keep invested the money proceeds of the foresaid gifts and other dispositions from time to time.
  • To make gifts of charitable organizations in the Municipality of Port Alberni, who support persons with a developmental disability and thereby assist them to defray the costs of their programs, of equipment purchases, of physical development, and of initiatives to promote and support community awareness of the special needs of persons with a developmental disability.
  • To establish trusts that provide a secure means for families to make provision for the future financial well being of a member of their family who is developmentally disabled.
  • To establish a capital fund for the purposes of developing community living options that provide opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to fully participate in the community.
  • To engage in activities that will be of benefit to individuals with developmental disabilities.

How do we fund our Foundation?

The foundation conducts ongoing fundraising to meet the desired goals and commitments as outlined in the mission of the Port Alberni ACL Foundation.

As well as fundraising, the Foundation may receive donations through other sources, such as; legacy, security, cash, real estate, stocks and insurance. Donors may make gifts throughout their lifetime while others may leave bequests in the will.

The Foundation accepts donations on behalf of the Port Alberni Association for Community Living. However, your cheque should be payable to:
