Self Advocacy empowers you to speak up for yourself and for the things that are important to you. It means you are able to ask for what you need and to tell people about your feelings and thoughts. It also means you know your rights and responsibilities; you are able to make choices and decisions that affect your life.
The Self Advocate group meets the second Friday of each month at 2:00 pm in Pathways. At the self advocacy meetings we discuss such things as:
- building relationships
- affordable housing
- healthy sexuality
- democratic voting process
- community safety
- emergency planning
Two self advocates also sit on the PAACL Board of Directors. They serve a two year term and are voted into the position by their peers.
In May there is a vote for any advocates who are interested in running for a position as a PAACL board member for a two year position.
