How PAACL Supports People at Every Stage of Life

For 67 years, the Port Alberni Association for Community Living has been a strong pillar in our community. We truly believe that everybody belongs. We work hard to make sure people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the same chances to succeed as everyone else. We support over 400 individuals in the Alberni Valley and the West Coast. Our goal is to help people thrive from childhood all the way through adulthood.

Early Support for Children and Families

A good start in life makes a big difference. We help families right from the beginning. Our programs include infant development and support for children with extra needs. We work with families in Port Alberni, Tofino, and Ucluelet. Our team helps children learn new things, grow their skills, and build confidence early on.

Building Colourful Connections in the Community

When young people grow into adults, they want to be active in the world around them. Our community integration programs help adults get out and have fun. We offer programs like Pathways and Unity. These groups help people make friends, learn new skills, and volunteer. We want everyone to feel connected to their neighbours.

Finding a Safe Place to Call Home

Having a safe and comfortable home is very important. We offer different housing options to fit what each person needs. Some people live in our community houses with dedicated support staff. Others do well in a home share or with semi-independent living. We make sure everyone is treated with dignity and respect in their own home.

Gaining Confidence Through Meaningful Work

Having a job gives people a great sense of pride. PAACL is proud to be a top employer in the valley. We also help the people we serve find great jobs. We use customized employment services to match a person’s unique talents with local businesses. This helps them earn an income and feel like a valued part of the workforce.
